The Toyota Prius and Prius Prime have 1.8L, 4-cylinder engines with electric motors generating 121 horsepower. They both have an automatic transmission with acceleration capabilities that is enough for everyday use.  

 

Neither the Prius nor the Prius Prime is an athletic vehicle, although both rides are smooth. The steering wheels are considered numb when compared with other modern models. The Prius also has an optional all-wheel drive for wet or snowy roads, making it suitable for Canada. The Prius Prime is not available in all-wheel drive.

The Prius and Prius prime have excellent interior features, including soft-touch surfaces. Although you will find some hard plastic here and there, the interior of both vehicles is fairly impressive. The standard things in the Prius and Prius Prime are the push button start,  comfort, and proximity keyless entry. 

 

The Prius and Prius prime can sit up to 5 people comfortably. The seats are made with leather upholstery, a standard feature of the Prius, while the Prius Prime has cloth seats that you can upgrade to leatherette. Both vehicles have no genuine leather seat options. Both models also offer heated front seats.

 

The Prius Prime has smaller cargo space to accommodate its larger battery pack.

Infotainment and connectivity

For infotainment and connectivity, the  Prius and Prius Prime offer a standard 6-speaker stereo, Wi-Fi hotspots,  a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and satellite radio.  The infotainment system can connect to Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon. The optional features include a 10-speaker JBL audio system, navigation,  wireless device charging,  HD radio and an 11.6-inch touch-screen.

Both models have some great features for protecting their occupants in the event of a crash. Both vehicles come with a forward collision warning system. Other features include automatic emergency braking,  automatic headlights,  lane keep and departure warning,  adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic warning for higher trims.

 

The Prius prime has standard pedestrian and cyclist detection added to its collision warning system, a warning colour head-up display, and Road Edge detection, all of which are added at an extra cost with the Prius.
